Trends in Fundraising 2019
My first clients in the UK were an international fundraising consultancy, nonprofits like Rotary International and Surrey Special Olympics, and the Royal Academy of Dance. I also believe in #givingback so I volunteer in my #community so I #fundraise in the education sector.
Here’s what has helped my clients consistently raise funds, profiles, and engage hearts and minds.
Use digital technology to engage your audience. According to Salesforce, nine out of 10 charities use social media to:
- raise awareness about their cause
- engage with their community
- fundraise
Build relationships with your donors. Don’t ignore them and contact your partner community only when you are asking them for money or for an ‘ask’. Keep them engaged and communicate with them on a regular basis.
Remember that donors give because they feel a real #connection to your #cause. According to the Association of Charitable Foundation, annual giving is on the rise in the UK. Growth is being attributed to family and personal foundation giving (up by 10% at over £2B), while corporations are giving less.
So what does that mean to you?
1. Set goals, both financial and relationship management goals.
2. Know your audience and prioritise your outreach strategy and channels.
3. Write a communications and marketing plan. Ensure your digital approach aligns to your offline approach.
